Late Goal Edges UNOH Past RCU

WASHINGTON, MI - In a tight, physical match, UNOH women's soccer had to earn their chances against Rochester Christian but found the decisive connection late in the game to sneak past the Warriors, 1-0.

Despite a dominating first half that saw the Racers keep Rochester from recording a single shot, UNOH wasn't clinical enough in front of goal putting just two of eight shots on target keeping the game scoreless after 45 minutes. The Racers continued to control the pace of play in the second half and improved their offensive effeciency before finally netting the game winner in the 79th minute.

After UNOH intercepted a Warrior throw in, the ball deflected around before landing at the feet of Celia Catalan Keck. Keck turned and gathered possession before feeding Vivian Purmonen coming up the right side. Purmonen sent a perfectly struck cross from the top corner across the penalty box to Minni Laukka just in front of goal.  Laukka fended off her mark and hit the ball first time lifting it over the keeper and under the cross bar to break the deadlock. Each team produced one more chance down the stretch but the one goal proved decisive as the Racers held on for the 1-0 win.

UNOH outshot the Warriors 14-3 in the match with the two teams combining for 24 total fouls and six yellow cards. Sophia Eisner (2-2-2) went the full 90 making two saves for her second clean sheet of the season.

The Racers return home for two matches next week facing Concordia on Wednesday, September 25 followed by Lourdes on Saturday.
