San Filippo Named National Defender of the Week
KANSAS CITY, MO - Northwestern Ohio's Gianna San Filippo has been named the NAIA Women's Volleyball Defender of the Week after her dominating performance last week.
The Racer middle blocker earned the award after putting together a 32 block week that included setting the program's single-match record for block assists with 15 against Lourdes as part of the team's record setting 40 assist/22 total block performance. San Filippo's extraordinary week also saw her average 3.20 blocks per set over three matches and a 2-0 record in WHAC play. The junior leads the country with 133 total blocks this season while averaging the nation's third best with 1.55 per set.
San Filippo becomes the first Racer to win the NAIA Defender of the Week award and just the second national honor in program history. She is the WHAC's first defender of the week since 2021.
