Racers Lose in Five at Madonna

LIVONIA, MI - UNOH and Madonna traded blows Friday night in the ACCU Arena, but it was the Crusaders landing the decisive strike with a come-from-behind rally in the fifth set to steal the night, 3-2.

Madonna led wire-to-wire in game one, winning 25-22, but UNOH turned the tables in game two fending off a comeback attempt to even the match 1-1. The Crusaders jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in game three and held that cushion throughout winning 25-17, but once more the Racers responded taking a tight game four 25-23. The decisive set was controlled by UNOH early on before going behind for the first time at 10-9. The Racers scored three of the next four points to take the lead again, but Madonna rallied the final four points to win 15-12 and finish off the 3-2 win.

Gianna San Filippo led the team with 13 kills on 39 swings with four errors (.231) adding six block assists. Savanna Reed recorded her fifth double-double with 15 assists and eleven digs and Madylen Hampton logged her fourth with 13 and ten. Bailey Gregory led all players defensively with 22 digs on the night.

 

UNOH will stay in Michigan for their next match Saturday taking on UM-Dearborn at 2:00 PM.
