Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Brescia and IU-East

RICHMOND, IN - UNOH volleyball took a brief respite from the arduous conference schedule with a tri-match at IU-East on Saturday, October 7. The Racers swept Brescia 3-0 in their first matchup before falling 3-1 to the host Red Wolves.

 

UNOH 3 Brescia 0 (25-20,25-13, 25-15)

UNOH jumped out early and maintained their lead throughout set one winning 25-20. Game two saw the Racers go up 10-4 out of the gate running away to a 25-13 win. Brescia scored the first point of the third and final set, but it was the only time UNOH trailed the whole match as they pulled away once more to win by ten, 25-15.

The Racers maintained a balanced attack with six players recording five or more kills in the match. Elli Roetgerman and Abigail Martin led all players jointly with nine kills each. Roetgerman hit a career high .692, the program's highest in a three-set match since 2017 (Stephanie Hanewold-.750), finishing with 13 attacks and no errors. Martin's nine kills came off 17 swings with four errors. Logan Thomas went errorless for the first time in her career hitting .350 and ending with seven kills on 20 attacks. Taylor Reust added six kills while Aliyah Saylor and Hannah Colquitt each had five. Savanna Reed finished with 13 assists and Taylor Kennard earned a career high ten. Defensively, Ashlynn Cruz led all players with eleven digs.

UNOH hit .313 as a team with just twelve hitting errors.

 

IU-East 3 UNOH 1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-15, 25-18)

The Red Wolves led most of game one, going up by eight before the Racers pulled the match within three 21-18. IU-East finished the set off with four of the final five points to win 25-19. UNOH dominated the early portion of game two exploding for a 11-2 led to force a timeout. The timeout had the desired effect with The Red Wolves going on a 9-3 run to cut the score to 15-11. IU-East continued to chip away before finally taking their first lead of the set 23-22. UNOH took care of business in the end scoring three straight to win 25-23. Set three saw IU-East find their ryhthym outscoring the Racers 16-4 down the stretch for a comfortable 25-15 win. The fourth game continued that same trend, despite a furious comeback attempt late as the Red Wolves took the night with a 25-18 win.

Logan Thomas led the team with ten kills adding two block assists. Abigail Martin finished with eight kills, Elli Roetgerman had six and Hannah Colquitt recorded five. Savanna Reed had 18 assists in the match and Madelyn Hampton had 14. Aubree Ricketts was the only Racer with double-figure digs finishing with 17.

 

UNOH will begin the second half of their conference slate with a trip up US-30 for a matchup with No. 21 Indiana Tech on Wednesday, October 11 at 7:00 PM.
