Racers Run Out of Gas Against Lourdes
LIMA, OH - UNOH (2-9, 1-7) battled the Grey Wolves of Lourdes University (3-6, 3-5) Tuesday Night, March 2, at the Garage and fell in straight-sets (26-24, 26-24, 25-14).
The first set saw the Racers dominate most statistical categories. UNOH finished with 17 kills on 40 attacks (.275) to Lourdes 9 on 30 (.200). However, errors ended up dooming the Racers in the end finishing with 6 to only 3 for Lourdes.
Set two saw the Grey Wolves take more control, but the Racers improved their errors finishing level with Lourdes at 5 a piece. UNOH finished with 10 kills on 28 attacks (.179) with Lourdes hitting .241 in the set.
The Racers started to run out of steam in the third set giving up 14 kills on 25 attacks (.520) and hitting .227 with 9 kills on 22 attacks.
As a whole, errors were the plague that couldn't be overcome as UNOH finished with 15 attacking errors, 6 set errors, and 13 service errors in the Match. "We made too many errors in the first set but played tough in the 2nd," said Head Coach Josh Kreiner following the match. "Our serve/receive broke down in the 3rd and we just ran out of gas."
Individually, the Racers were led by Aaliyah Alexis (SR/Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago) with 13 kills on 28 attacks and 4 errors (.321). Alexis also had 3 block assists in the match. Taylor Reust (FR/Huntington, IN) chipped in 7 kills on 13 attacks and 3 errors (.308) and Amber Cottrill (FR/Chillicothe, OH) added 6 kills. Making her season debut for UNOH was Anabel Buss (SO/Berlin, Germany) who gave the Racers 4 kills hitting .211 on the night.
UNOH takes to the road Thursday, March 4, to play Indiana Tech before returning home Saturday, March 6, against Siena Heights.
