
Women's Tennis Repeats as WHAC Tournament Champions
LIMA, OH - UNOH women's tennis completed their second consecutive season sweep of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) with a 5-0 win over Lawrence Tech in the Tournament Championship match on Wednesday.
The Racers earned the doubles point with wins in No. 1 and No. 3 doubles picking up four singles victories in the second, third, fifth and sixth lines.
Munisa Ashurbekova and Ekaterina won their first line doubles 6-1 with Margarita Tatur and Melissa Jangarasheva earning a 6-2 win in the third line. Telma Herreros and Agathe Vaillant went unfinished in the second line leading 5-2.
In singles, Tatur finished first at No. 6 blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 followed by Orlova in the No. 2 position who won through 6-0, 6-2. No. 3 and No. 5 finished simultaneously to clinch the championship with Vaillant taking the third line 6-1, 6-1 and Herreros winning the fifth 6-4, 6-0.
Ashurbekova won her first set 6-2 at No. 1 and led 3-2 in set two when the match concluded. Jangarasheva fell 1-6 in set one and was trailing 2-3 in the second.
It is the fifth time UNOH has swept the WHAC Regular Season and Tournament titles giving them an automatic bid to the 44th Women's Tennis National Championships. The First Round of the tournament will begin May 13 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama culminating with the National Championship on Saturday, May 17.
