UNOH Advances to Second Round with 1-0 Win Over GGC

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - UNOH women's soccer advanced to the NAIA Second Round with a 1-0 win in the program's first ever meeting against Georgia Gwinnett, their first national tournament victory since 2019.

The Racers held a slight edge in total first half shots 7-5, but the Grizzlies put three on goal to two for UNOH. Neither team, though, could get one past the keepers as the game stayed scoreless into halftime.

The first ten minutes of the second half played tight in the midfield but a foul in the 52nd minute set up a long free kick opportunity for the Racers. Patricia Blazquez took the kick from almost 40 yards out, sailing it into the box with a bend into the opposite bottom corner and a 1-0 lead. Opportunities were hard to come by down the stretch but the freshman Racer keeper, Sophia Eisner, made four saves in the half to keep Georgia Gwinnett off the board and help UNOH advance to the second round.

Eisner ended with a season high seven saves earning her third clean sheet in four post season matches.

UNOH will now face off with Williamsburg Bracket host Cumberlands on Saturday, November 18, for a trip to Foley, Alabama and the 40th Annual Women's Soccer National Championship.
