LIMA, OH - UNOH women's soccer ended the season on the right foot with a 3-1 win over Rochester at home on Senior Day.
After getting a couple early looks at goal, the Racers were held at-bay by the Warriors for 30 minutes of game time. Finally, in the 35th minute, Jasmin Tadina linked with Patricia Gomez Nogueras who finished opposite side past a diving keeper for the first goal of the match. It didn't take long for UNOH to get their second coming off a cross from Nanna Rosengreen that found the head of Anne Sjolte just five minutes later. The ball deflected straight down off Sjolte's head but bounced back up and over the keeper for a 2-0 lead at the half.
Ten minutes into the second half, Rochester took advantage of a UNOH mistake on the back end and got one goal back. Despite the one Warrior goal, the Racers kept the them from building any type of offensive momentum and held their one-goal advantage with ten minutes to play. The final dagger came in the 83rd minute off a Hedda Isakkson corner kick. The ball came down right in the middle of the box where a cutting Janne Esther Frauenpreiss headed it on the run past the keeper. UNOH nearly added a fourth less than a minute later on what would become the final shot of the match, but a save by the Rochester keeper kept the game 3-1.
After beginning the season 3-4-1, UNOH ended 8-1-1 in their final ten games to finish third in the final Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings. With the loss, Rochester fell to sixth which sets up a rematch between the two teams in the WHAC Quarterfinals next Wednesday, November 1. The game will be a 3:00 PM kickoff at Racer Field with a trip to the semifinals on the line against either No. 2 Aquinas or No. 7 Indiana Tech on Saturday, November 4.
