UNOH Ends Regular Season with Tough OT Loss at SHU

ADRIAN, MI - UNOH women's basketball closed the regular season at Siena Heights Saturday afternoon and had to fight back to force overtime before falling to the Saints by five, 79-74.

The Racers fell into a 13-4 hole to start the game but quickly battled back to take the lead 16-15 before ending the first quarter down by one. The game stayed tight into the second staying within two possessions producing two ties and two lead changes but the Saints held a slight advantage at the break, 36-33. 

The second half picked up where the first finished as the teams traded the lead six more times tying four times but Siena Heights scored the final seven points of the frame to take a 55-51 lead into the final stanza. That run continued into the fourth as the Saints went up by nine with 7:05 remaining making it a 14-2 streak over nine and a half minutes of game time. UNOH fought back into the game again needing just two minutes to shave the lead back to two, 64-62 with five minutes left. The game remained close and the Racers earned two free throws thanks to a technical foul down by just one with 41 seconds to play. After splitting the two shots to tie the game at 69, both teams missed game winning jumpers sending the contest into overtime.

The Saints scored the first points of extra time and never surrendered the lead again outscoring UNOH 10-5 in overtime to hand the Racers a 79-74 loss.

Alysia Lawson led all scorers with 31 points, her sixth 30-point outing of the season. Lawson shot 12-24 (50%) from the field, 3-5 (60%) from outside, and 4-5 (80%) from the free throw line adding three rebounds, three steals and a block. Jayci Allen logged her ninth double-double of the season scoring 23 points on 8-18 (44%) shooting while pulling down a game high twelve rebounds and blocking three shots. Alayha Allen posted numbers in all categories scoring eight points with eight boards, three steals, three blocks and two assists.

The loss drops UNOH out of a hosting position for the WHAC Tournament next week and will send them back to Siena Heights for the Quarterfinals as the six-seed on Wednesday, February 26.
