Game 1
Michigan-Dearborn
LIMA, OH - Due to inclement weather, UNOH and UMD were only able to play one game of their scheduled doubleheader Friday afternoon, but the Racers still did enough damage for two in a 17-1 WHAC Finale rout. The win is the team's 17th of the season in conference play setting a new program record at 17-6. Northwestern Ohio's four four-year seniors have now set or tied the conference wins record each of their four seasons (16-set, 16-tied, 16-tied, 17-set).
The Wolverines used two walks and a single to get their only run of the game in the top of the first, but it didn't take long for UNOH to get out in front. Anna Ankney and Dani Keighley ripped back-to-back solo shots in the bottom of the frame giving the Racers an Early 2-1 lead. The offense kept rolling into the second with the Racers hitting a single and a double followed by a second Keighley bomb, all coming with two outs, to score four more and take a commading 6-1 lead. The UNOH score doubled in the home third thanks to three singles and two more doubles that combined with three stolen bases and a wild pitch for a six run frame. Back-to-back two out singles brought in three before a third Keighley home run capped the scoring in the fourth.
Keighley's three homers ties the program record and is just the third such performance in program history. She also doubled in the third giving her a program record 14 total bases in the game finishing a perfect 4-4 and driving in eight RBI, also a program record.
Both Ankney and Tess Denning were also perfect at the dish going 3-3 and 2-2, respectively. Ankney singled, doubled and homered bringing home three RBI while Denning doubled twice with one RBI.
The Racers' 17 runs is a season best with eight of 15 hits going for extra bases and a combined 31 total bases, both season highs. Their four home runs ties the program record and is the most in a game since 2020.
Lanie Wooten (18-7) gave up a hit and two walks in the first inning but allowed just two hits and walked one the rest of the game to earn the win and move her into third place for single season wins.
With the WHAC Tournament looming, UNOH will play one more non-conference doubleheader to wrap up the regular season. The Racers travel to IU-South Bend on Sunday, April 27 to face the Titans with conference tournament play beginning on Wednesday.
