Game 1
(RV) Rio Grande
LIMA, OH - UNOH softball took a brief respite from their WHAC schedule for a non-conference showdown with (RV) Rio Grande Tuesday afternoon. The Racers gave up a five-run spot in the second inning of game one to take a 6-3 loss before another five-run frame in the sixth inning of the nightcap finished off the RedStorm sweep 7-3.
After a scoreless inning started off the clash, Rio Grande came alive in their second at bat stringing together four singles and a double for a 5-0 lead after two. The Red Storm added their final run in the top of the fifth but UNOH finally got the offense flowing with four singles in the home half to plate two and make it a 6-2 game. A couple more singles helped add one more run for the Racers in the sixth but they were held in check and couldn't build the momentum to complete a comeback.
Tess Denning matched her career best going a perfect 4-4 at the plate with one RBI. Hailee Edgell also finished clean at the dish hitting 2-2 with an RBI while Anna Ankney logged a 2-4 outing.
Karsyn McGlothen (6-5) took the loss after five and two-thirds innings allowing six runs on ten hits with three walks. Destiny Warren made her third appearance of the season in relief finishing the final inning and a third and retiring four of five batters faced.
Game two saw the Racers come out of the gate firing using a double, a walk and a wild pitch to put runners on the corners in their first trip to the plate. Tess Denning continued her hot day stepping up and firing off a three-run homer down the left field line to put UNOH on top early. However, the offense dried after that first inning shot with just one hit over the final six innings as Rio Grande scored one in the second, one in the fourth and blew the game open with five in the sixth to steal the win.
Freshman Lanie Wooten (8-5) took her second straight loss after working five and a third winnings with six runs allowed, four earned, on seven hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Karsyn McGlothen tossed the final inning and two-thirds with one unearned run on three hits with a walk and a strikeout.
UNOH will continue to run the gauntlet this week as they take on WHAC leading Indiana Tech (17-6, 6-0) on Thursday, April 3 followed by No. 12 Madonna (21-6, 4-0) on Saturday.
