LIMA, OH - UNOH fell into a big hole early in game one and couldn't dig themselves out falling 10-6 to Cleary Sunday afternoon. The Racers responded to their first loss since March 16 and were able to avoid any mistakes in game two completely shutting down the Cougars for an 8-0 run-rule victory in six innings.
UNOH fell behind 7-0 right away after giving up three in the second and four in the third but didn't roll over linking two singles and two doubles in the home third to get four of the runs back. However, all that work was erased quickly as the Cougars stayed hot and plated four more in the fourth to take a commanding 10-4 lead. The Racers made one final push using a lead off walk followed by a triple and a double in the fifth to score twice but the offense went dry again snapping a six-game winning streak.
Dani Keighley and Tess Denning produced most of the offense in game one finishing 3-4 and 2-4, respectively, with each driving in two runs.
Lanie Wooten (8-4) got the start but was forced out after three innings allowing seven runs, five earned on eight hits with a strikeout and a walk. Karsyn McGlothen tossed the final four innings in relief giving up just one earned run on two htis with three walks and a strikeout.
Fortunes turned in the nightcap thanks to solid defensive play and a consistent offensive production for the Racers. UNOH scored twice in the second and three times in the third thanks to three singles and two doubles over the two frames. They also received some assistance in the form of four hit batters and an error through the third and fourth innings that helped them build a 7-0 lead through four. The Racers managed to finish off the run-rule in the sixth going walk, single, single, single with Sydney Shaffer delivering the game winning RBI on a deep ball to the center field fence.
Shaffer was perfect in game two going 3-3 at the dish with a career high five RBI that gives her multiple RBI in four of the last six games. Tess Denning went 2-4 for the second time in the day adding one RBI to her total.
Karsyn McGlothen (6-4) was in control the entire game logging a two-hit complete game shutout with one walk and one strikeout to earn the win.
UNOH has a busy week ahead as they begin a stretch of eight games in six days that will open at home against (RV) Rio Grande on Tuesday, April 1. The Racers then head to Indiana Tech on Wednesday followed by No. 12 Madonna Saturday and Rochester Christian on Sunday.
