Racers Rebound in Florida with Two Wins on Day Four

MELBOURNE, FL - After losing two games to St. Ambrose at the Space Coast Spring Games on Sunday, UNOH softball responded with two wins on Monday defeating (RV) NCCAA Dallas Christian 2-1 followed by a 3-0 victory over IU-South Bend.

Margins were tight in the first game of the day as the Racers used an error to score the first run in the their first at bat without recording a hit. Through three and half, the two teams combined for just one hit before the Crusaders used two singles, a sac bunt and a ground out to even the game at 1-1 after four. The tie didn't last long as Dani Keighley stepped up and ripped a two-out double that scored one and gave the lead back to UNOH in the top of the fifth. Lanie Wooten took over in the circle for the bottom of the inning and went on to retire the final nine batters of the game in order to finish off the 2-1 win.

Dani Keighley was the only Racer with multiple hits going 2-3 with the teams lone RBI.

Karsyn McGlothen (3-4) earned the win after four innings of work allowing one run on just two hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Lanie Wooten picked up her first career save working the final three innings without a hit or a walk while striking out one.

Game two started similar to the first with the Racers going hitless through three innings while holding off IU-South Bend into the fourth. UNOH finally got the offense going in the home fourth with a lead off triple and two singles but could not take advantage of a bases loaded situation with one out thanks to a inning ending double play. The favor was returned in the top of the sixth as the Titans loaded the bases with no outs but hit into a double play that ended the threat. That momentum carried into the UNOH half of the frame with back-to-back doubles to lead off the at bat and score the first run of the game. Hailee Edgell followed with a triple to add a second and Holly Alvoid brought in a third with a sacrifice fly out to put the Racers up 3-0 headed into the final inning. IU-South Bend hit a two-out single and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch in the seventh, but Wooten struck out the batter for the final out and the first Racer sweep at the SCSG.

Dani Keighley was sharp again offensively going 2-2 with one RBI finishing the day 4-5 at the dish.

Laine Wooten tossed ther second complete game shut out of the season scattering just four hits over seven innings without allowing a walk and striking out four.

UNOH will conclude their Florida trip on Tuesday, March 18 with a rematch against Dallas Christian at 2:30 PM followed by a first ever matchup against NCAA DII Saint Michael's at 4:45 PM.
