St. Ambrose (IA)
MELBOURNE, FL - After an off-day Saturday, UNOH softball got back in action Sunday at the Space Coast Spring Games with two games against St. Ambrose. The Racers fell in extra innings in game one 2-1 before dropping game two 7-4.
Game one went scoreless through four before the Bees lit the board first with one in the fifth. That run was answered by a solo home run from Anna Ankney in the sixth and the game played through seven still tied 1-1. A sac fly scored the game winning run for St. Ambrose in the eighth and the Racers went down in order to finish the game.
Anna Ankney was one of just two Racers to record a hit finishing 2-3 with Hailee Edgell credited with the team's third.
Lanie Wooten (5-3) tossed her fifth complete game in the loss allowing two unearned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk over eight innings.
St. Ambrose got started quickly in game two aided by a Racer error in the first that helped put the Bees up 2-0 after one. UNOH threatened in the fourth but couldn't get a run across and St. Ambrose opened the game up in the fifth with three more runs. A couple errors help the Racers get two back in the top of the sixth but they were quickly answered with two more for the Bees making it a 7-2 game heading into the final inning. A single and a double led off the at bat for UNOH and scored one before Sydney Shaffer added one more with a RBI single. The comeback attempt fell short, however, as the next two Racers were retired to finish off the two-game sweep for St. Ambrose.
Tess Denning led the way in game two as the only Racers with multiple finishing 3-4 at the dish with one RBI.
Karsyn McGlothen (2-4) took the loss after four and a third innings of work giving up five runs, two earned, on just two hits with four walks and one strikeout. Destiny Warren saw her first collegiate action in relief completing the final inning and two-thirds with two runs allowed on two hits with no walks and no strikeouts.
UNOH has two more days left in Florida before returning home to begin conference play. The Racers will take on Dallas Christian and IU-South Bend Monday, March 16 before wrapping up the SCSG against Dallas Christian again and NCAA DII Saint Michael's.
