MELBOURNE, FL - After losing the first game and winning the second on their first in Florida, UNOH softball reversed the order on day two taking down No. 2 (NCCAA) Fort Lauderdale 4-3 in game one before falling to Montreat 6-2.
The Racers struck early scoring three in their first at bat of the day. An error got the inning started followed by a triple and a double to bring in the first two before Anna Ankney stole home for the third. Things went quiet in the second but Fort Lauderdale back-to-back singles to open the third before using an error and a double to tie the game at 3-3. The winning run came in the bottom of the second as UNOH ripped consecutive two-out singles and were aided by a throwing error to take over the lead for good. The teams combined for just two hits over the final two and a half innings giving the Racers a 4-3 win to start the day.
Lanie Wooten (5-2) went four innings to earn the win scattering just three hits but seeing three unearned runs score finishing with four strikeouts and three walks. Karsyn McGlothen entered in the fifth and earned a rare three inning save, her second save of the season, giving up just one hit while striking out two and walking one.
UNOH scored in the first and the last inning of game two but were shut down through the middle five as Montreat plated all six of their runs in their first two at bats. Two singles, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly gave the Racers their first run with the second coming off an two-out, RBI single in the seventh.
Karsyn McGlothen (2-3) started the game but was chased out in the second after allowing six runs on six hits with one walk and no strikeouts to pick up the loss. Lanie Wooten took over in the second with a runner on third and no outs and completely shut down the Cavalier offense. She worked out of the second inning jam without giving up a run finishing with five innings of hitless ball striking out one and walking two.
Holly Alvoid led the Racers on day two of the Space Coast Spring Games going 3-4 at the plate with two RBI over the two games. Anna Ankney and Dani Keighley both finished the day 2-5 with Keighley bringing in one RBI.
Day three will be a doubleheader format for UNOH taking on St. Ambrose twice beginning at 1:30 PM on Sunday, March 16.
