Game 2
GEORGETOWN, KY - UNOH softball picked up a pair of victories to wrap up their two-day trip to Kentucky defeating Georgetown 6-2 in game one and blanking the Tigers 8-0 in game two behind Lanie Wooten's first career no-hitter.
The Racer bats were hot from the start as they produced two doubles and back-to-back home runs in their first at bat as part of a three run inning. A third homer came in the third and added two more runs to the UNOH lead putting them up 5-0 after three. Aided by an error in the home fourth, Georgetown got one run back and the next two innings went scoreless sending the game into the final frame with the Racers up 5-1. A triple and a wild pitch helped UNOH get their sixth run before the Tigers put together their best inning of the day in the bottom with three singles that plated one to finish the game at 6-2.
Dani Keighley, Tess Denning and Anna Ankney all went yard in game one. Keighley added a single and a triple while Ankney added a single in a double making them both 3-4 in the game.
Kiya Benschoter (1-1) worked the first five innings allowing one unearned on six hits with one walk. Karsyn McGlothen made her first appearance of the season in relief finishing the final two innings with one run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
UNOH again opened the scoring in their first at bat of game two stringing together a triple and two singles the brought in two. However, six of the next seven batters when down in order for the Racers and the 2-0 score held through three. The wheels began to fall off for the Tigers in the top of the fourth with UNOH loading the bases with one out. They then followed with three straight singles before capping a six-run inning with a double to blow the game open 8-0. Georgetown was held hitless the rest of the way to finish off a run-rule shutout.
Tess Denning, Sydney Shaffer, Anna Ankney and Holly Alvoid all went 2-3 at the plate with Denning and Shaffer logging three and two RBI, respectively.
In just her third collegiate appearance, Lanie Wooten (2-1) tossed a brilliant no-hitter becoming just the second freshman to record a No-No in program history (Carlie Hanes - 2020), and the earliest in the season and career for any player. Wooten was in control from start to finish striking out three and walking just one over five innings.
The originally scheduled softball home opener was slated for this coming weekend against IU-South Bend, but those games have been moved to Sunday, March 9 due to forecasted low temperatures. Instead, UNOH will head back to Kentucky on Monday, March 3 for a recently added doubleheader against No. 3 Cumberlands.
