LIMA, OH - UNOH scored both their goals in the first 17 minutes of the match, but it was enough to edge past Cornerstone 2-1 on Saturday.
The Racers were on the front foot early building pressure before notching their first of the day in the 14th minute. Luka Heins sent a long ball from midfield that found Reece Benjamin on the right wing. After one bounce, Benjamin sent a perfect cross into the middle of the box finding the head of Natxo Sanchez on the run finishing into the back of the net. UNOH was at it again just three minutes later with a creative two-man game between Sanchez and Eguzki Hashimoto at the top of the penalty box. Sanchez connected with Hashimoto who shield his defender and returned the ball back through several defenders to Sanchez who gave the Racers a 2-0 lead. In the 33rd minute, Cornerstone put together an effective counter, aided by a couple mistakes on the back end that got one goal back before the halftime break on their first and only shot of the half.
Less than five minutes into the second half, Ognjen Stanic had a great look at a third goal but was denied by the post to keep just one goal between the teams. Despite outshooting the Golden Eagles 16-3 in the half, UNOH couldn't beat the keeper again but did their work defensively allowing just one shot on goal over the 45 minutes to hold on for the win.
Alexandre Torres (5-1-2) played the full 90 in front of goal for the Racers making one save to earn the win.
UNOH will travel to Siena Heights on Wednesday for a night game against the Saints at 7:00 PM.
