Racers Run Away from the Field in WHAC Preview

AUGUSTA, MI - UNOH men's golf led from start to finish at the only conference event of the fall Monday and Tuesday. The Racers shot three of their top five rounds of the season at the WHAC Fall Preview to run away from the competition by 31 strokes. UNOH shot 287, 282 and 277 as a team for a tournament score of 846 (-6), the second best 54-hole result in program history.

Guillermo Garron was the individual medalist for the first time in his career thanks to three rounds of sub-par play. Garron opened the tournament with the best round of his career shooting a 3-under 68, following by two rounds of 70 for a career best 208 (-5). Teammates Oliver Rogers and Jose Vargas followed right behind, both hitting season lows of 211 (-2). Rogers carded a 74 and a 71 before ending the event with a tournament-low 66, the team's best of the season. Vargas opened with a 72 and hit his how season best 69 in round two, finishing with a 70 in round three.

Luke Turner earned his second top ten of the season with rounds of 73, 73 and 71 for a 217 (+4). Oscar Lind rounded out the team scoring with a 223 (+10) after shooting 78, 72, 73. Jaiden Pass and Bruno Boado both competed as individuals in the tournament finishing with a 228 and 242, respectively.

Words from Coach West: I am very proud of Guillermo. He is a silent leader. Just a worker who wants to do well for the team. To see him get his first win and play magnificent golf was incredible. This team is special. They have bonded fast and are a very close knit group who play for each other. They all have so much talent and the ability to be our number one player. All can, and have, shot under par in competition this fall. When they start putting it together as they did this weekend; when three of five guys shoot under par; great things are going to happen.

UNOH will play in two more events before wrapping up the fall portion of the season. The Music City Collegiate takes place in Dickson, Tenn. on October 7-8 with the St. Andrew Fall Men's Classic in Wagram, N.C. rounding out fall the following week.
