UNOH Loses Tight Battle to Defiance

LIMA, OH - The newest member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) finished off their second win of the season over UNOH Wednesday night, 88-86, handing the Racers their third straight defeat.

It was a game of runs throughout the night as the two teams fought to gain an advantage. The first belonged to Defiance with a 9-0 run that put them up 20-11 earn on, but it was matched by UNOH who pulled things level again at 20 just a couple minutes later. The Yellow Jackets put together another offensive spree, 15-4, that proved to be the difference going into halftime despite the Racers ending the half 8-3.

The first few minutes of the second saw both teams trading buckets before UNOH rattled off a 12-2 run that put them back in front 63-59 with ten minutes to play. The lead was short-lived, however, as Defiance answered back 9-1 to go back up by four three minutes later. Once more the teams traded shots over the next few possessions before the Racers turned a tie game into an eight-point advantage, their largest of the night, with just over four minutes remaining. Like the first, the final run of the night belonged to the Yellow Jackets as they ended the game on a 15-5 stretch to steal the win.

Ryan Archey finished with a game high 19 points with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Antonio King added 17 with five boards and Alex Benson scored 16 off the bench. Malachi Black chipped in ten points while pulling down eight rebounds off the bench.

The Racers had a sizeable advantage on the glass 48-30 with a season high 21 on the offensive end, but coughed the ball up 18 times allowing 26 points off turnovers while forcing just twelve and 13.

UNOH will try to right the ship at home against Aquinas on Saturday, February 1.
