LANSING, MI - UNOH had to slug through a tough first half Wednesday night at Cleary but found their offensive rhythm in the second rolling to a 73-48 victory.
The night produced three ties and five lead changes in the first two minutes of the game before Cleary took hold with a 7-0 run to go up 22-17 with 4:37 left in the half. UNOH pulled the game back within one and it remained no more than two possessions the rest of the half in a 29-27 defensive battle.
After the game continued to play back and forth early in the second, the Racers turned a three-point lead into 14 over a four minute span to blow the game open. The closest the Cougars could get was eleven as UNOH broke through their offensive woes while tightening their defensive pressure outscoring Cleary 46-19 in the second half for a big 73-48 win.
It was the program's best defensive performance of the Westerlund Era holding Cleary to just 22% shooting on the night and 12% from three-point. The Racers shot 44% from the field while dominating in the paint scoring 38 points and grabbing 50 rebounds to just 18 and 37 for the Cougars.
Alex Benson led all scorers with a season high 21 points off the bench shooting 8-13 (62%) from the field and 4-7 (57%) from outside. Antonio King and Ryan Archey both chipped in eleven points with King logging a game and season high six assists. Caleb Chapman recorded his first double-double of the season off the bench scoring ten and pulling down a season high twelve rebounds.
UNOH returns home Saturday after four consecutive road games to face UM-Dearborn.
