LIVONIA, MI - UNOH men's basketball picked up their first conference win of the season Tuesday night holding off Madonna 83-77.
The game got off to a rough start for the Racers falling behind 15-4 just four minutes into the night. UNOH kept chipping away at the lead before finally tying things up 27-27 with 6:39 left in the half. They managed to get in front for the first time, 30-29, but the Crusaders ended the half on a 12-4 run to lead by six at the break.
Over the first five minutes of the second half, Madonna pushed their lead back up to ten, 52-42, but again the Racers scrapped their way back in front by the halfway point, 59-58. The game stayed within one possession for the next five minutes but the final five belonged to UNOH outscoring the Crusaders 14-5 to pull out the win.
Antonio King tallied his second double-double of the season putting up 20 points and pulling down ten rebounds. King shot 8-13 (62%) from the field to log his fourth 20+ outing of the year. Alex Benson recording a season high 18 points off the bench going 7-13 (54%) from the field.
Both teams shot 46% as a team with rebounds leaning slightly towards Madonna 33-30. UNOH, however, turned 17 forced turnovers into 20 points while giving the ball away a season low seven times.
The Racers will be have a week off for Thanksgiving before taking on Cleary December 4 in their fourth of four road games to open conference play.
