Men's Basketball: Racers Lose Heartbreaker to Aquinas
LIMA, OH – In a game that seemed decided, UNOH (10-17, 6-13) made an impressive comeback cutting down a 13-point lead to just one point 27 seconds left on the clock. With a post-season birth on the line, the Racers final three-point chance to win was off target sending Aquinas' (12-14, 8-11) to the WHAC Tournament.
UNOH got off to a slow start watching Aquinas build a double-digit lead at the midway point of the half. The Racers cut that lead to just one before the Saints made it nine again. The deficit finally settled at six, 41-35, at halftime.
In half two, the Saints managed to build their largest lead of the game at 13 points with help of a 10-4 run. Aquinas held that lead until 4:42 remained when a timeout at 81-71 reset the momentum. In a thrilling comeback, the Racers put together an 11-2 run over a four-minute span cutting the Saints lead down to one, 83-82, with 27 seconds left on the clock. After a missed free throw opened the door for UNOH, a buzzer beater came up short and Aquinas held on for the 84-82 win.
Trevon Wells (JR/Cleveland, Ohio) and Biggz Johnson (SO/Lima, Ohio) finished with a team high 17 points each. Wells shot 80% from the field while grabbing four boards and one block. Johnson racked up a game-high five assists with two rebounds and a steal. Hunter Bode (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio) was the only other Racer in double figures recording 15 points with seven rebounds and two blocks.
