Baseball Caps Regular Season with Twinbill Sweep

ADRIAN, MI - UNOH baseball wrapped up their regular season schedule on Sunday picking up two wins over Siena Heights and completing the season sweep. The Racers took game one 12-3 and game two 10-4 giving them a 4-0 record against the Saints this season after defeating them 11-6 and 19-5 less than two weeks ago.

The first six batters of the opener were retired in order but a triple in the top of the second put UNOH on the board first. They added one more in the third but the Saints plated all three of their runs in the home fourth and took the lead 3-2. The lead was short-lived as the Racers pieced together five singles in the fifth that put them back on top 6-3. The offense poured over into the sixth with three more singles, two doubles and a Devon Tukes two-run homer that capped the scoring to finish off a 12-3 win.

Joskar Feliciano and Seth Freeman each went 3-4 at the plate driving in three and two RBI, respectively. Noah Matheson, Nolan Hull and Jacob Watson all finished 2-4 in the game with three RBI between them.

Noah Curi threw the first three innings without allowing a hit while striking out four and walking two. Josh Mauney completed the first two outs of the fourth but was chased out after three runs on thre ehits with a walk and a strikeout. Jeremy Yurcak struck out the only batter he faced for the third out of the fourth frame. Dean Sommer (2-1) earned the relief decision after working two innings of two-hit ball striking out two and walking one. Blake O'Bryan finished the final inning with one hit and one strikeout.

UNOH never trailed in the nightcap scoring at least one run in six of the nine innings. They wasted no time getting started using a walk, two singles and a double to plate three runs in their first at bat. The Racers added two more in the second one in the third and one in the fourth to open up a 7-0 lead after four. After a scoreless fifth, UNOH added a pair in the sixth followed by the first run of the game for Siena Heights in the home seventh. The eighth saw both teams score for the first time in the game with the Racers putting up one and the Saints bringing in three. Neither team could add anymore in the final frame handing UNOH the 10-4 victory.

Nolan Hull was consistent on the offensive side again going 3-5 with one RBI. Devon Tukes went 2-2, Noah Matheson finished 3-4, Jacob Watson hit 2-4 and Eliomar Otero ended 2-5 in the game.

Andrei Gordeev (1-2) earned his first win of the season with a strong performance scattering five hits over five and a third innings walking two and striking out four. Jeremy Yurcak went one inning in relief with one run allowed on one hit with a strikeout and no walks. Aiden Nugent threw an inning and a third giving up three runs on five hits with a walk and a strikeout. Zach King finished the final inning and a third allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, top-seeded UNOH will gear up for the new double-elimination WHAC Baseball Tournament that begins Wednesday, April 30. The Racers will square off again with eight-seed Siena Heights at Meijer Sports Complex and will take on either Aquinas or Madonna on day two.
