
UNOH Picks Up Two Wins Over Lourdes
LIMA, OH - UNOH baseball added to their winning streak Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep over Lourdes to open a six-game home stand.
Game one produced two innings of hitless baseball before Lourdes lit the scoreboard first in the top of the third. The lead only lasted one inning as UNOH singled, tripled and hit a sac fly in the home fourth to go up 2-1. A two-out RBI double gave the Racers an insurance run in their next at bat, but the Gray Wolves were held to just one hit over the final two frames to give UNOH the 3-1 win.
Dean Sommer got his second start of the season and worked two innings without a hit but gave up the lone run of the game while walking and striking out three. Jeremy Yurcak (3-1) tossed two in relief to earn the win giving up two hits with two strikeouts and no walks. Josh Mauney finished the final three innings also giving up just two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
The two teams combined for just three hits over the first four and a half innings of game two before a single and a double in the home fifth plated the first run of the game for the Racers. UNOH sat down the Gray Wolves in order to open the sixth and went to work again in the bottom of the inning. The Racers got some help to begin their at bat scoring one thanks to a walk, an error and a wild pitch. The offense then produced three singles that brought in two more to finish the frame giving UNOH a 4-0 lead after six. Lourdes managed to chip into the lead with a run in each of the final two innings but the Racers again held them at bay when it matter to secure their 16th straight victory, 4-2.
Noah Matheson led the team with his eighth multi-hit game in the last twelve finishing 2-3 at the dish with two RBI. Eric Brown logged his second multi-hit game in the last four going 2-5 while Tyler Huff brought in one RBI off a pinch hit single in the sixth.
Will Myklebust earned his first start in more than a month and threw three hitless innings with one strikeout and no walks. Sinjon Bobolia (3-0) earned the decision after two inings of relief work allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout. Nate Tappenden gave up one run on two hits over two and a third innings striking out two and walking one before Eliott Traver took over in the eighth and finished off his fifth save of the season. Traver allowed one hit and saw one unearned run score while striking out three and walking one.
UNOH will try to keep their winning streak alive with four home games this weekend. The Racers will square off with WHAC newcomer Defiance on Saturday, March 29 before finishing off the home stand against Rochester Christian on Sunday.
