Baseball Routs SSU for Eighth Straight Win

HAMILTON, OH - Northwestern Ohio baseball wrapped up their non-conference schedule Tuesday with a big 19-2 win over Shawnee State and will open WHAC play Saturday on eight-game winning streak.

The Racers singled and doubled with two outs in the first inning to get on the board first, but that single run held through three. UNOH got some help in the fourth earning a walk, a wild pitch, an error and a hit batter before Tyler Huff brought in both base runners with a single to right. The Racers had a chance to do real damage loading the bases with no outs, but the next three batters went down in order and the game stayed 3-0 after four. A lead off homer from Eliomar Otero in the fifth made the score 4-0 before the wheels fell off for the Bears over the final two frames.

Despite Shawnee State plating two in the home sixth, the Racers logged nine hits, including two home runs, over those two innings aided by seven walks, four wild pitches, two hit batters and a passed ball that helped tally 15 runs and complete a 19-2 run-rule victory.

Ten different Racers recorded a hit led by Eliomar Otero who went yard twice and put together one of the best outings of his career finishing 4-5 with five RBI. Nolan Hull and Jacob Watson both went 2-5 in the game with Hull, Tyler Huff, Devon Tukes and Josh Ledgard each posting two RBI.

Dean Sommer started on the bump for UNOH and pitched two innings of one-hit ball striking out two without a walk. Nate Tappenden (1-0) earned the decision with one and two-thirds innings of effective relief work giving up two hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Nick Soller threw two and a third innings allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and one walk with Jordan Davis finishing the final inning without a hit striking out two and walking one.

UNOH will now head into conference play with four home games this coming weekend. The Racers will host Concordia on Friday, March 15 (previously scheduled for Saturday) and Lourdes on Sunday. Game one first pitch scheduled for 12:00 PM both days.
