Racers Win Both Ends of Siena Heights Doubleheader
LIMA, OH - UNOH baseball improved to 17-0 in conference play with two more wins in a home doubleheader against Siena Heights. Offense was hard to come by in game one, but the Racers survived a tight 2-1 scare. After the two teams combined for eleven hits in the first outing, UNOH alone racked up 17 in game two en route to a 13-4 win.
A lead off triple started the day for the Racers setting up Joskar Feliciano to drive in Darius Freeman with an RBI single and a 1-0 lead after one. Siena Heights evened the score in the second without recording a hit thanks to two walks and two fly outs. From there, the game produced just four hits scattered across four innings and UNOH was down to six outs. Feliciano led off the home sixth with a single two right and was moved around to third with a sacrifice bunt and balk. Noah Matheson stepped up in the moment ripping the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, RBI double to right. The Saints managed two hits in their final at-bat but got caught stealing and never threatened to score as the Racers held on for the 2-1 win.
Feliciano finished 2-2 with one RBI and Eliomar Otero went 2-3 in the game. Nick Johnson threw four innings allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Jeremy Yurcak (2-1) earned the decision after three hits of two-hit ball striking out three with no walks.
Siena Heights got on the board first in game two but their lead didn't last long. UNOH went triple-single-double in their first at-bat followed by a sac fly and another single that completed a three-run inning. After both teams went scoreless in the second, the Saints began what would become six straight half innings that produced at least one run. They would plate one in the third with UNOH answering again, this time with two of their own that included a Devon Tukes RBI triple. The teams traded runs in the fourth and Siena Heights added another to start the fifth, but another crooked number for the Racers put them up 9-4 after five. That score held into the eighth inning before UNOH loaded the bases and went to work again. Nolan Hull brought in the first of the frame and Alphonso Franks capped the afternoon driving in three more for a 13-4 lead. The Saints were held at bay in their final at-bat giving UNOH their 21st-straight win.
Alphonso Franks had a monster game recording four hits and five RBI, both season bests, in five at-bats. Eliomar Otero went 3-4 with one RBI and Devon Tukes finished 2-2 with two.
Wyatt Johnson toed the rubber first for UNOH going two innings with one run on one hit and one walk. Blake O'Bryan threw two and two-thirds allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Jack Olberding (3-0) scalped hits third win in the last twelve days over four innings of work in five appearances. Olberding toss one and a third against SHU allowing one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Eliott Traver picked up his third save of the season taking care of the final three frames with just one hit, two strikouts and no walks.
UNOH will tangle with third-place Indiana Tech (17-18, 14-4) in a doubleheader road trip on Saturday, April 13.
