LIMA, OH - UNOH volleyball earned their first WHAC victory of the season on Saturday after fighting off a tough Cornerstone team.
The Racers took set one 27-25 but dropped sets two and three, 25-12, 25-21, to go down 2-1. UNOH rallied and controlled set four winning, 25-15, without trailing to force a fifth set. After falling behind 6-5 to start, the Racers rattled off nine of the next twelve points before finishing off the game 15-11 for a 3-2 win.
"I'm proud of the way we grinded this one out today," stated head coach Josh Kreiner after the match. "We didn't play well in set two and missed some chances in the third, but I'm happy with how they responded. Everyone stayed with it and came out ready to go in the fourth to keep us alive. Once we forced the fifth, we were prepared to take care of business. It wasn't perfect, but all that matters is winning more sets than the other team."
Abigail Martin and Gianna San Filippo paced the Racers with 17 points each. Martin finished with a team high 14 kills with one solo block and two block assists, adding ten digs to her line for her third double-double of the season. San Filippo tallied twelve kills with a solo block and eight block assists. Hannah Colquitt was outstanding in the middle recording ten kills on 20 swings with just one error (.450), matching her career best. Shamyria DuBose also marked a new season bests with nine kills and ten points.
Savanna Reed racked up 46 assists and 22 digs for her fourth double-double of the campaign while Bailey Gregory led the way defensively with 30 digs adding six assists and two service aces. Alli Lopez chipped in her own season best with 16 digs as part of the team's season high 93 in the match.
UNOH will be off until next weekend when they make two road trips to take on Madonna Friday and UM-Dearborn Saturday.
