Racers Go 2-2 at Cumberlands Invite

WILLIAMSBURG, KY - Over the two-day Cumberlands Invitational, UNOH volleyball won two of their four matches, finishing their trip south at 3-3.

The Racers opened Friday with a 3-0 loss to Keiser (25-16, 25-12, 25-23) but rebounded in match two to win 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23) against Bluefield.

Saturday followed the same pattern with UNOH falling to undefeated host Cumberlands 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-23) in match one but taking down Union Commonwealth 3-2 (22-25, 25-14, 24-26, 25-23, 15-9) in match two.

Against Bluefield, Gianna San Filippo set new season marks with 21 kills and 24 points while hitting .571. Hannah Colquitt hit well in the same match finishing at .636 with eight kills, two block assists and a solo block. 

The five-set Union battle also saw several standout performances for the Racers. Abigail Martin was a jack of all trades recording 13 kills, ten digs, three aces two assists and a block assist for her fifth career double-double. Savanna Reed finished with a season high 49 assists, one shy of her career best, while Bailey Gregory set a new career mark with 32 digs. Riley Treece and Alli Lopez joined the others with each setting new season highs for digs with 13 and ten, respectively.

The six-match week was highlighted by Gianna San Filippo who ripped off 79 kills (3.59 KPS) with just 18 errors for a weekly hitting percentage of .343 while adding 20 total blocks to her scoreline. Abigail Martin finished the week with 56 kills (2.55 KPS) and Hannah Colquitt hit .261 with 28 kills of her own.

Bailey Gregory had one the best overall weeks of her career digging 116 times giving her 5.27 per set. Savanna Reed ended her six matches with 142 assists and 6.45 per set.

UNOH will open WHAC play their next time out when they hit the road to take on Concordia on Wednesday, September 4.
