Volleyball Wins First, Loses Second in Bryan Tri-Match

DAYTON, TN - On the first day of their trip south, UNOH volleyball fought through a three-set win over host Bryan in their first match but couldn't slow down Cumberland in match two falling 3-1.

The Racers controlled the first game of the day pulling away for a 25-14 win over the Lions. Game two began very differently as UNOH fell behind 10-1 to start and had to battle back for a 26-24 win. The third game stayed tight until the end when the Racers rallied to break a 20-20 deadlock with five of the final six points to cap a 25-21 win and a 3-0 sweep over Bryan.

In match two of the day, UNOH again had to battle back from an early deficit in game one before winning 25-20. Cumberland snuck out a 27-25 win in game two before finishing the match 25-20 and 25-23 to take down the Racers 3-1.

Gianna San Filippo led the day for the Racers putting down 25 kills with seven errors (.228) adding four block assists for 27 points over the two matches. Taylor Reust and Abigail Martin each finished with 19 points on the day. Reust hit .333 finishing with 18 kills, three aces, two block assists while Martin hit .278 recording 18 kills and two block assists. 

Defensively, Bailey Gregory set a career mark with her 1000th dig, finishing the day with a total of 35 to give her 1,029 in her career, tenth all-time. 

 

UNOH will have a day off before heading to Williamsburg, Ky. for the Cumberlands Invitational this weekend. The Racers will take on Keiser and Bluefield Friday before finishing with host Cumberlands and Union Commonwealth on Saturday.
