UNOH Women Make Second Half Push to Get Past UMD

LIMA, OH - UNOH women's basketball battled through a tight contest with UM-Dearborn Saturday afternoon using a strong finish to take down the Wolverines, 71-60.

Neither team led by more than two possessions the entire first half as the two went toe-to-toe for the first 20 minutes. A quick 7-2 Wolverine run finished the first quarter and gave them a four-point cushion that they maintained until there was just over a minute left in the frame. The Racers finally pulled level at 30 before the teams traded buckets and landed even at the break, 32-32.

The first seven points of the second half went to UNOH as they opened their largest lead of the night to that point, 39-32, and forced an early timeout. It came less than three minutes into the quarter, but it was still too late as the Racers never surrendered the lead again. After leading by eight heading into the fourth, UNOH pushed their lead up to as many as 14 behind a perfect 9-9 frame at the line to finish off the win.

Alysia Lawson tied for the game high with 21 points earning her second 20+ outing of the week. She finished 6-15 from the field and 6-6 from the free throw line with three triples on the night. Brooke Asher put up 17 points giving her double-digit scoring in 15 of 16 games in her freshman campaign including three straight with 15+. Asher matched her career high with seven rebounds while dishing out five assists. Sanaiiya Gray was right behind with 16 points while Lori Huffman fell one point short of a double-double grabbing a game high twelve boards.

UNOH will now enter one of the toughest stretches of the season when they take each of the top three teams in the WHAC over a seven day span. The gaunlet begins on the road at (RV) Lourdes (12-4, 8-2) on Wednesday, January 14 followed by a home game against Rochester Christian (10-6, 9-1) and at trip to Fort Wayne to face No. 22 Indiana Tech (12-4, 9-1).
