Late PK Ends Women's Soccer Season in NAIA Second Round

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - UNOH women's soccer saw their 2024 campaign come to a close in heartbreaking fashion Saturday night thanks to a converted Campbellsville penalty kick in the 84th minute that broke the deadlock and put the Tigers up 2-1.

The Racers lit the scoreboard early notching the first goal of the night in the 8th minute. Mathilda Berg Karlsson took the ball on the left wing and fed Minni Laukka slicing into the box. After one touch, Laukka put the ball on the keeper who misplayed letting the ball get through and trickle over the goal line. Twenty minutes later, Campbellsville leveled the match off a deflected cross that landed at the top of the penalty area and was finished with pace in the top left corner.

The game continued to play even deep into the second with both teams being denied chances to get in front. Finally, in the 84th minute, a mistake from the Racer keeper created a penalty kick that was slotted home and put the Tigers in front 2-1. UNOH was unable to create another opportunity in the final six minutes pushing Campbellsville through the final site of the NAIA National Championship and sending the Racers home in the second round for the second consecutive season.

Natalia Lima ends the year as the team's leader in points and goals, scoring eleven times and assisting on eight. Vivian Purmonen finished right behind with ten goals and three assists including the game winner in the first round against LSU-Shreveport.

As a team, UNOH tallied 190 points with 70 goals and 50 assists this season, all the program's most since 2019. The season concludes for the Racers with a 14-4-4 overall record (.727) after finishing 10-1-1 in conference play (.875), both also the program's best since 2019.
