Short-Handed Racers Take First Home Loss of the Season

LIMA, OH - UNOH women's basketball took their second straight loss of the season and their first on home court, 84-81, at the hands of Siena Heights on Wednesday night.

Momentum shifted back and fourth in the first quarter with neither team leading by more than two possessions but UNOH finished with the final eight points of the frame to hold a 24-20 lead. The second quarter belonged to the Saints outscoring the Racers 26-13 to grab a nine-point lead going into halftime.

The break came at a good time for UNOH and the result was a reverse of the second as the Racers outscored Siena Heights 24-14 to muscle back in front, 61-60, heading into the final period. The game stayed tight in the fourth producing three ties and five lead changes over the first four minutes. The final change came at the 6:04 mark when the Saints banged home a three-pointer to break a 71-71 tie. After going down six, UNOH pulled back within one with 1:46 to play but couldn't get back their noses back in front after the potentional game-tying attempt rattled out to end the night.

Four of six participating Racers scored double-figures led by Alysia Lawson's 26. Lawson shot 9-17 (53%) from the field with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Ana Montero Sanz had a stellar night across the board scoring a season high 19 points on 6-10 shooting while dishing out nine assists, grabbing five rebounds and swiping five steals, all team highs. Jayci Allen added 18 points hitting 7-7 free throw attempts and Olivia Thompson chipped in 12.

As a team, it was the best shooting night of the season for UNOH hitting 54% from the field with eleven coming outside the arc. However, the Racers were out-rebounded 33-25 giving up 13 offensive boards that produced 14 second chance point compared to their own four and three.

The Christmas break gives UNOH 15 days off before they get back into action with three straight home games beginning with Rochester Christian on Saturday, January 4.
