UNOH Upsets Lindsey Wilson to Earn Place in Quarterfinals

MOBILE, AL - In the most important of three matchups this season, No. 11 UNOH men's tennis got the best of No. 6 Lindsey Wilson in the Second Round of the NAIA National Championship. The Racers upset the Blue Devils in dramatic fashion Wednesday afternoon clinching in the third set in the third line singles matchup to take the win 4-3 and punch their ticket to the quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive season.

The teams split the first two doubles matchups with UNOH taking the point with wins in the first and second lines. Singles one, three and four all went to Lindsey Wilson with the Racers winning two, five and six.

Francisco Perez and Lucas Grana took first doubles 6-3 with Carlos Hernandez and Lucas Perez winning the second 6-2. Mete Koseoglu and Florian Smalto took the loss in doubles three 4-6.

Grana and Smalto were the first two singles points for UNOH in lines five and six, respectively. Grana was dominate winning 6-1, 6-2 and Smalto finished with a pair of 6-4 victories. Francisco Perez scored the match point in the third set of No. 2 singles scoring 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Koseoglu took two 3-6 losses in the first line of singles with Lucas Perez and Hernandez dropping tight battles in fourth and fifth lines, respectively. Lucas Perez dropped 6-7[5-7], 2-6 and Hernandez fell 5-7, 4-6.

The win propels UNOH into the NAIA National Championship Quarterfinals as the only northern team remaining in the field of eight. The Racers will now square off against No. 3 Keiser on Thursday, May 15 looking for their third straight trip to the semifinals.
